2019 Patriot’s Pen Winner

Ellie Eagle, an eighth grader, at Academy Charter School in Castle Rock participated in a VFW youth essay contest known as the Patriot’s Pen. Each year the VFW Parker Post receives a number of submissions from all sixth through eighth graders from within the VFW Parker Post limits of Douglas County. These submissions are then reviewed and judged based on a number of factors. This year’s theme was What Makes America Great.

Ellie Eagle’s submission was outstanding and was a clear choice for receiving first place within our Post. She was presented with a certificate during a ceremony at her school in front of her teachers, relatives, and peers. In addition, she also received a $500.00 check from the Post as a reward for her excellent submission.

The Post also presented a certificate to the school principal, Shane Foust, to represent the outstanding work his faculty has done in promoting patriotism and excellent values amongst the students.
